Organic wool pillows are made without synthetic chemicals, either in the raising of the sheep or the processing of they wool.
They are encased in an organic cotton cover, giving you the complete organic product.
Organic wool is produced to a rigorous standard. The sheep are raised on organic pasture and feed, free from agricultural contominants. The carrying capacity of the land has to be strictly observed and sheep must be able to wander freely.
Once the sheep have been shorn the wool needs to be cleaned. Regular wool uses bleach, solvents and detergents. Organic wool is cleaned using only hot water and vegetable based soaps with no carbonization.
Comfort: A pillow made of wool is extremely comfortable. Wool retains its height much better than cotton and is of a medium firmness. It is a resiliant material and doesn't compress over time the way other materials can.
Insulation: Wool insulates incredibly well and maintains an even temperature. Your head will be able to stay warm in winter and cool in summer, meaning you won't wake up or sleep restlessly due to temperature.
It is a complete myth that wool is hot. People only think wool is hot because they normally only use it in the winter. Wool is an incredible material and will allow air to pass through easily in order to keep the temperature down when it is hot. Why do you think the best quality suits are always made of wool? Smart people wear them in the summer. The nomadic Bedouin people of the Sahara desert have always worn wool.
Moisture Regulation: The average person sweats out a fairly large quantity of moisture onto their pillow every night. Wool has the unique ability to absorb the moisture without getting damp. Woolen fibres have a self cleaning mechanism which forces moisture to the surface where it dissipates into the air, preventing dampness from penetrating to the core of the pillow.
Hypoallergenic: Organic wool pillows retain the wool's natural lanolin. Lanolin is an oil that is found naturally is sheep's wool. Lanolin naturally repels dust mites, so you can be sure your pillow will remain infestation free. The wool is naturally resistent to mold and mildew and it is hypoallergenic. It is also the most fire resistant bedding material in the world.
You cannot adjust the pillow the way you can with buckwheat or shredded rubber. Because of this a wool pillow would be okay for a side sleeper or a back sleeper but it would be less ideal for a stomach sleeper.
